Are any there any liberal democrats out there who served/plan to?

My father is an AF fighter pilot who flew the stealth fighter and now flies the UAVs in Afghanistan from the US. He went to the AF academy and has been a registered republican since 18. However, he has never voted republican! He voted for clinton, kerry, obama, etc...I asked him why and he told me that he thinks republicans and conservative christians are angry all the time and too stuck in th epast for him. I agree and am a democrat now that I have turned 18 as well. I am applying to the Naval Academy (probably won't get in haha) and want to be a marine or SEAL. Will I get looked down upon as an officer of infantry men and navy commandos by my subordinates if they know im a democrat? should I just not discuss it with them? Any of you have any similar stories/ expieriences to share?
