Traveling from Bangkok to Phuket, Thailand?

Im going to Phuket from Bangkok this spring. I know that I can take a train or a bus but I want to know what would be easy, relatively fast and cheap. also any fun activities and things to see or do while in phuket would be great. any information on phuket and your experiences there are much appreciated.
